Change (Обмін)
I love working with sounds, turning silent videos into lively and engaging experiences. In this film, I was responsible for the sound design, creating all the gunshots and explosions, as well as enhancing various environments and atmospheres. My goal was to make the viewer believe in the magic they see on the screen by incorporating many interesting sound elements.
About the film:
The war, ongoing since 2014, has affected the lives of many Ukrainians. One night, a father (Vyacheslav Dovzhenko) receives a call from an unknown person using his son’s phone number. It becomes known that his son, who was on a combat mission, has been captured. To free him, the father must travel to the front line and deliver a specified amount of money. However, at the exchange, instead of his son, another young man is brought. Many other fathers and sons find themselves in similar or even more dire circumstances. With each passing day, the number of families whose lives have been profoundly changed by the war continues to grow. Can one negotiate with an enemy who follows no rules or ethical standards?
The war drama “The Exchange” was created with the support of the State Film Agency. The project’s director, Volodymyr Kharchenko-Kulikovsky, has extensive experience in producing TV series for Ukrainian television. Filming took place in the Kyiv region, in the Brovary district, which was partially occupied at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
My Role in Sound Design:
In “The Exchange,” I crafted the sound design, including gunshots and battles, explosions and car sounds, to bring the film’s intense scenes to life. Additionally, I enhanced the sounds of various environments and atmospheres, adding depth and realism to the story. My aim was to immerse the audience in the film’s world, making the on-screen magic believable through a rich tapestry of sound elements.
